Context

Generation Z, being the first generation to have grown up fully immersed in technology, expects seamless integration of digital solutions in every aspect of their lives, including banking. As they begin to enter the workforce and take control of their financial futures, it is crucial for banks to empower and educate them to make informed financial decisions through digital banking solutions.

Research

To better understand Generation Z's perspectives and financial needs, I undertook both desk research and primary research. Desk research involved analyzing existing literature and data, while primary research involved conducting direct interviews with members of the demographic.

Using clustering to identify key themes from interviews and primary research

Fear of Financial Loss

Lack of Financial Knowledge

Different needs & perspectives

Creating compact user personas to better understand the target audience and design a solution that matches their needs

Insights

1. Fear of Financial Loss

2. Need for accessible and simplified educational resources for Gen Z

3. Gen Z has different needs and preferences compared to previous generations,
which are not being met by the current banking system

The Concept

A gamified investment app that allows people, specifically Gen-Z, to learn about investments through simulated scenarios using virtual coins. Once they gain confidence and knowledge, they can then make real investments through the app.

UI Design

Reducing the fear of financial loss through a simulation mode

This simulation mode is designed to provide hands-on learning, allowing users to gain experience and confidence in investing without the risk of losing real money. By investing virtual funds in different assets, users can learn the ins and outs of investing, increasing their understanding and comfort level in making real investments.

Investing in the real world

After gaining familiarity and confidence through playing several games in simulation mode, individuals can transition to real mode and invest in assets with greater assurance

Learning every step of the way

We've added a "learn" button and tab to simplify investment resources and provide access to relevant information.
To further enhance the user experience, we have introduced a dedicated "learn" tab that provides access to a wide range of educational resources.Verified content is labeled with a "verified by Banca Intesa Sanpaolo" tag to enhance trust and credibility.

Achieving personal goals

A dedicated space where people can set and track their financial goals, helping them to understand how much money they currently have and how much more they need to reach those goals. This enables them to make informed investment decisions and take steps towards achieving their aspirations.

Concept Pitch & Feedback

The team at Banca Intesa Sanpaolo was impressed with the concept and particularly delighted with the app's educational and engaging nature. They were also fond of the app's design language, which appears as a younger and more vibrant version of the current Intesa Sanpaolo app.
Looking ahead, they recommended adding additional features to enhance the security and privacy of financial assets.

Relatability is key

It is crucial to present educational material in a relatable manner to ensure that users can understand it and do not feel intimidated or overwhelmed. To achieve this, we have implemented the "learn" button, which presents bite-sized information with accompanying visuals, using language that is easy to understand and free of financial jargon. The aim is to empower individuals to make informed financial decisions, not to overload them with complex financial terminology.

Exploring simple yet effective solutions to complex problems

Through my experience with this project, I discovered that even the most challenging problems can have straightforward solutions. One such challenge was in the realm of education, where many members of Generation Z expressed difficulty in acquiring knowledge and finding easy-to-understand methods of learning. By implementing a simple feature like a "learn" button, we were able to provide a practical and less intimidating way to learn

My love for working in multidisciplinary teams

As part of this project, I had the opportunity to work in a team of two interaction designers and a visual designer. One of the most rewarding aspects of the experience was the diversity of perspectives and expertise brought to the table by each team member. Collaborating with my peers allowed me to gain new insights and broaden my perspective, which ultimately resulted in the development of an effective solution that received positive feedback from our client
